GPX International Ltd
Is a company working towards certified consumption of green energy, enabling:
- consumers to buy from a specific source or group of sources
- producers to sell from a specific source
- energy service companies (ESCO's) to develop a new gateway

application example 1

Energy display (product ready for market)

- shows consumption details and smart interpretations about consumption.
- connects meters of both consumption and production.
- developed as console system for the entrance room of buildings.
- applicable without console as system in existing narrow-casting systems.
- suitable for schools, city councils, banks, hotels, shopping malls etc..
- shows the interior consumption with specific interior and/or exterior production.
- strengthens the tie with the source for users as well as visitors.
- gives support to energy awareness.
- automatically updates production and consumption once per day or per hour.
- automatically updates the green energy balance position once per month.
- measurement data is confirmed by independant meter company Cycle Systems Energy Services.

Application: Green Power eXchanger - Groene Energie Stopcontact (visualization A)

This application brings certified information about the origin of produced energy to the consumer. It is a simplified way of showing the "Guarantee of Origin" that needs no change in the kWh meter. (product is shown as example and is presently not yet on the market).

The system is embedded in the main kilowatthour meter and gives the meter reading on a separate display, also showing other data concerning energy consumption.

Remote small meter devices at the level of 1) apparatus 2) the wall outlet and 3) the circuit breakers can communicate with the separate displaysystem of the main kilowatthour meter.

This product example is a plug-and-play product for the wall outlet. It comprises a digital kWh meter, a display, a register, three buttons and a slot for smartcards.

GPX is interested in working with partners helping to create a fast, urban, universal, radical and ethical new way of using green energy, installed at the exact point of consumption, capable of communicating with energy meters, the internet and all wired or wireless interfaces like mobile telephone, PDA, home energy dash board, etc. Interoperability is important for energy management systems. As soon as wind and sun are connected with energy tariff systems, a logical step, devices can enter the energy "game". Consumers can sense the sun and wind outside and can thus expect their automated devices to run electrical appliences as set by consumers energy management controls. Such as for example showed by "dynamic demand"

GPX - digital power in the digital age

The concept of GPX

Special thanks to: Wietske © W.L. Jonker - ter Veld
  • supports the growth of renewable energy.
  • makes use of standardized guarantees of origin.
  • facilitates the consumer in controlling energy costs.
  • brings a stepping stone for the home energy system.
  • connects digitally the proof of renewable energy to power being used.
  • suitable for system integration based on measure-switch-communicate.
  • helps to reduce the load profile, thus supporting demand side management (DSM).
  • works fine in fused and computer controlled octopus outlet adapters and extenders.
  • bridges production and consumption based on guarantees of origin on every possible level worldwide.
  • is a prize winning concept. The idea won the third prize out of 157 entries at the NUON Sustainable Energy Contest during an international Sustainable Energy Conference (see GPX newspage).
  • meets demands for consumer information on electricity.
  • means connecting digital energy From Point To Point.
  • For Online, storing your wind budget at home.
  • For Off line for certified original energy.
Many times, the support of green energy looks too small, but any support helps to grow the general idea of good stewardship for our home, our planet earth. GPX gives good feedback and is scalable to larger consumption for all purpose and users.

Certificate systems

The Association of Issuing Bodies, AIB: Energy Certification offers conclusive proof of the source (origin) of energy. It does this by creating a unique certificate to represent the attributes of a specific unit of energy. This can then be transferred from owner to owner, thus enabling the final owner (or a body acting on its behalf) to have proof of the orginal energy used.

The EECS (link to AIB) is the European Energy Certificate System. EECS on wiki.

TRECs: Tradable Renewable Energy Certificates. TREC's are digital certificates which can be traded separate from energy. One of the world's largest interstate trading systems is the Renewable Energy Certificate System (RECS), a pan-European market initiative who have introduced a comprehensive digital trading system for Renewable Energy Certificates.
TRECs are a right of ownership to energy produced by natural resources (for instance a windmill, but no fossil or nuclear fuels). These certificates can be traded and consumed at another time. The certificates can come for example from the windmill around the corner or from a solar panel on the other side of the planet.

TRECKIN was an important project for hamonisation of green energy certification, they clearly explained the world wide certificate system. Link to the last issue of the TRECKIN newsletter from dec 2003.

World Wide Green was a World Wide concept for purchasing Green Certificates (separate from energy) from California and Australia. They stopped activities due to lack of demand for users had no opprtunity to actually consume the certificates with a device. WWG clearly explained the use of certificates (separate from energy).

Green Certificates Replaced by Guarantees of Origin
The Dutch Upper Chamber agreed to a bill on introducing a system of Guarantees of Origin for renewable energy as of 1st January 2004.This system will replace the existing system of green certificates. A Guarantee of Origin is an exclusive proof of the production of renewable energy. By presenting a Guarantee of Origin the subsidy for green electricity (MEP) will be granted. TenneT, the supervisor of all grid operators in the Netherlands, will for 10 years be in charge of the system of Guarantee of Origin. As of the 1st of January 2009 the system of green certificates will disappear in the Netherlands. [Source: Ministerie van Economische Zaken]
